Hijri Age Calculator

How old are you in Hijri years? Get your exact Islamic age in years, months and days, and see when your next Hijri birthday falls.

How Hijri age works

The Hijri calendar is lunar. Each month begins with the new crescent moon, and a year of twelve months lasts about 354 days. The Gregorian year is about 365 days, so the two calendars drift apart by roughly 11 days every year.

That drift adds up. By the time you are 33 in Gregorian years, you have lived through about 34 Hijri years. At 66 the gap is about two years. Your Hijri birthday also arrives about 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year, which is why it is so easy to miss.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old am I in Hijri years?

Enter your date of birth above and the calculator shows your exact age in Hijri years, months and days. Because a Hijri year has about 354 days, 11 fewer than a Gregorian year, your Hijri age is usually one year higher than your Gregorian age once you are in your thirties.

Why is my Hijri age higher than my Gregorian age?

The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so each Hijri year is about 354 or 355 days long. Every 33 Gregorian years contain roughly 34 Hijri years, so your Hijri age gains about one year for every 33 years of life.

Which calculation method should I use?

Use the method your family or community follows. Umm al-Qura is the official calendar of Saudi Arabia and is widely used in the Gulf. Dawoodi Bohra families use the Misri (Fatimi) calendar. ISNA is common in North America. Different methods can differ by a day, which only matters if you were born close to the start of a month.

What if I was born after sunset?

The Islamic day starts at Maghrib (sunset). If you were born between sunset and midnight, your Hijri birth date is the next day. Tick the "born after Maghrib" box so your Hijri age and birthday are exact.

When is the Islamic age of maturity (bulugh)?

Islamic rulings that depend on age, such as the age of maturity, are counted in Hijri (lunar) years, not Gregorian years. That is one reason families track Hijri ages. For questions of religious rulings, follow the guidance of your scholars or community.
