Why the Misri calendar needs its own tool
Dawoodi Bohras follow the Misri (Fatimi) calendar, a calculated calendar whose months are fixed in advance rather than set by local moon sighting. Most Islamic calendar apps, and the Islamic dates Google Calendar can show, follow other methods such as Umm al-Qura. Those dates can differ from the Misri date by a day or more, which is exactly the kind of error you cannot afford on a barsi or a miqaat.
HijriMinder calculates with the Dawoodi Bohra method (and five other methods, if parts of your family follow a different calendar). You enter a date once. HijriMinder works out when it falls in every coming year and keeps it in your calendar, with a reminder before the day.
How it works
- Connect your Google or Microsoft calendar.
- Add your family's dates, in Hijri or Gregorian; we convert either way.
- Optionally subscribe to a Dawoodi Bohra community calendar for miqaats.
- Get reminders every year, on every device signed into that calendar.
Want to check a date first? Use the Hijri birthday calculator and choose the Dawoodi Bohra method.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Google Calendar support the Misri calendar?
Google Calendar can show an "alternate calendar" with Islamic date labels, but it follows a general Islamic calendar, not the Misri (Fatimi) calendar used by Dawoodi Bohras, and it cannot add your own events. HijriMinder calculates dates with the Misri calendar and adds real events, with reminders, to Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook.
How do I add a waras or barsi to my calendar every year?
Create the event in HijriMinder with the Hijri date, or with the Gregorian date it happened on and let HijriMinder convert it. Choose the Dawoodi Bohra method. HijriMinder works out the Gregorian date for every year ahead and keeps it in your calendar with a reminder.
Can I get all miqaats in my calendar?
Yes. Subscribe to a Dawoodi Bohra community calendar on HijriMinder and its miqaats sync straight into your Google or Outlook calendar, alongside your own family dates.
Will it work on my iPhone?
Yes, if your iPhone Calendar shows your Google or Outlook account, which it does for most people. HijriMinder writes to Google or Outlook, and the events appear on every device connected to that account.
What if a date was after Maghrib?
The Hijri day begins at sunset. When you add an event, tick the after-Maghrib option and HijriMinder counts it as the next Hijri day, so a birth or passing after Maghrib is remembered on the right day every year.
